Hello Everyone,

My name is Jennifer Nigro; I’m the Coordinator of Volunteers for Audio-Reader, an audio information service for people who have trouble reading standard print due to vison loss, physical or learning disability, mobility challenges, and age. As some of you know, we are getting ready to officially launch service in Springfield, MO. This will begin with offering the Springfield News-Leader on our Telephone Reader service (area grocery ads are also available). To that end, we are recruiting volunteer readers, and will be at the Springfield library on Thursday, September 15 from 11-3:30 to hold reader auditions. Please help share the attached information about our audition day. Once we have volunteers in place, we’ll be able to start offering service to the area!  Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Camp Wakonda- A source for summer volunteer hour opportunities.  Located about 30 minutes west of Springfield just outside of Halltown.  We are a traditional YMCA coed summer overnight camp.  We serve campers going into the 3rd grade all the way up to seniors in high school.  Our 6 week camp program begins on June 19th and ends on August 6th.   Mature, dependable, volunteers needed to assist with check-in on Sundays between 2 & 4pm and check-out on Saturdays between 9:30 & 11am.  These are volunteer positions and would be helping with parking, nametag making or in our Trading Post.  One paid position available for an individual over 18, perhaps a current senior, to work as our grounds person.  This would entail mowing, trimming and a variety of other tasks.  This person would live on site in a cabin with 2 counselors and 10 campers and partake in meals with the rest of camp.  The salary for this position is $300/week including room &board.  He/she will have a 24 hour break each weekend and one night off each week just like the cabin counselors.  Contact Steve Maynard at This email address is being protected from spambots.
